Dr Koyes Ahmed qualified from Barts & The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of London, in 2007 with an MBBS and a BSc (Hons) in Experimental Pathology. He subsequently obtained a number of postgraduate qualifications, including a Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG) and a Diploma from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (DCH), and became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2012.

Dr Ahmed was appointed Regional Lead GP at The Medical in 2019 practicing Private General Practice, and now works as an NHS Urgent Care GP, Clinical Co-Ordinator and Clinical Supervisor (helping to train GP Registrars) at Severnside IUC.

Have you taken the vaccine?

I had my first dose of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020. I felt absolutely fine – with no soreness at the injection site, no fever, no headache, no fatigue, no muscle aches or pains, and no other side effects.

Why do you think it is important people take the vaccine?

It is the only way for us to get out of social distancing and lockdowns. It is the only way to protect the most vulnerable and get our lives back. It’s very important people take it so they are protected themselves from serious illness and, in particular, potentially “long COVID” which can affect people of any age.
